
President Abraham Lincoln’s personal items auctioned one rare item that caught the attention of many.
The gloves in Lincoln’s pocket the night he was shot, the night he was shot, were painted on the night he was shot, according to the Associated Press.
The bloody gloves were made of leather and went for $1.52 million, including the buyer’s premium fee.

Of the 144 items for auction by Freeman/Hindman in Chicago, 136 were sold.
The auction was held to fund payments for 20 years of loans stolen by the Lincoln Presidential Foundation.

Another item discovered on the night of his assassination in Lincoln’s possession was a handkerchief sold for $826,000.

According to the Associated Press, it is reportedly the earliest known sample of his handwriting.
Artifact left the foundation’s 1,540 items set that was purchased from Louise Taper for Abraham Lincoln in 2007 Presidential Library Museum, AP reported.

In total, the auction raised $7.9 million, including a 28% buyer premium for each sale.
