Scientists deploy monitors on volcanoes Mount Adams in Washington After a surge in seismic activity.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said Mount Adam usually experiences earthquakes every two to three years, but in September there was the most earthquakes in a month since monitoring began in 1982.
Earthquakes were monitored by the USGS Cascade Volcanic Observatory (CVO) and the Pacific Northwest Earthquake Network (PNSN) and ranged from 0.9 to 2.0. None of the earthquakes were felt on the surface, USGS said.
The USGS said its monitoring capabilities are limited as there is only one earthquake station near the volcano.

CVO and PNSN are planning to install a temporary earthquake station near Mount Adams to help with detection Smaller earthquakes While getting better estimates of size, location and depth. This data helps scientists assess the importance of increasing seismic activity near volcanoes.
With permission from the US Forest Service, CVO will place temporary stations south and southwest of Mount Adams. Once activated, data is sent to the CVO and PNSN in real time.
The latest Icelandic volcanic eruptions will subside, but experts are wary of coming soon

Despite the spikes Seismic activity, USGS says there is a source of concern and there is no indication that Mount Adam’s alert level and color code remains green and normal.
Mount Adams is located in southern Washington, near 50 miles west-southwest of Yakima, Washington.

In the north-south trends, Mount Adams is the most prominent summit, with over 120 small volcanoes in Adams Mountain Mountain. It is also Washington’s second most attractive volcano and, according to the USGS, it is the volume and area, the state’s largest active volcano.
The agency said it has four lava flows that began in volcanic aprons over the past 12,000 years and two vents along the Southridge. The flow usually only traveled a few miles from the vent.

Mount Adams last erupted from 3, 800 to 7, 600 years ago, USGS added.
But one of the biggest threats to those living near a volcano is the muddy streams of rock, ash and ice that rise downstream like lahar, or fast-flowing concrete.

The ice-covered summit covers a large amount of hydrothermal debilitating rocks that can produce lahars if weakened by future landslides.
