“double” Despite some brave attempts since then, it hasn’t been completed since 2001, but Kyle Larson is about to add his name to the history books.
The Indy 500 is scheduled to start at 12:45pm ET at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Coca-Cola 600.
The flight between the two tracks is about an hour and a half, but Larson wants to be brave in it.

“Why I love racing. I like to challenge myself. You learn new cars and so on. And I like to compete in the biggest races in the world. So it’s pretty cool to do two on the same day,” Larson said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital.
“For me, I want to do it while I’m at Prime. I’m 32. I feel like I’m at the top of our sport. I felt the timing was right. I don’t know how long my NASCAR career will last. I’ve grown up, but I look at the caliber and level, as it’s different from what we see and feel on the road course.”

Five drivers, including Larson, tried the feat, and some were able to run both races. But Tony Stewart, who finished sixth in Indy and third in the Cola 600 in 2001, remains the only driver to achieve all 1,100 miles. The last person to run both races was Kurtbush. He finished the Indy 500 in 6th place in 2014, but an engine failure at Charlotte cost him the completion of that race.
Larson I tried double Last year, rain slowed the Indy 500, and that same storm prevented him from competing in Charlotte later that day, despite him reaching the track.
“I enjoyed it last year. It helped me prepare for this year. Despite not running both last year, there are still many benefits. Hopefully, the weather remains good, and I have everything on time and I can do a good job in the race.”
For beginners, Larson has one main goal. “Completing all the wraps.”
“But you’re looking where the bar is,” he continues, referring to Stewart’s accomplishments. “You’re like, ‘I want to beat it.’ If you can win one of two, that’s great.

“It’s going to be hard to win the Indy 500, but it can definitely be done at the same time. The fastest car, the best driver, technically, doesn’t always win the race. If you do your best and don’t make any mistakes, if you can do a good job, the results can take care of themselves and have a great day.”
It’s almost impossible to win both, but Larson knows which one he has.
“I won 600, I’ll take the Indy 500,” he said. “But if you can win one of the two, that’s amazing.”
