Oscar has announced several changes and updates to the rules for next year’s 98th Ceremony, including permission to generate artificial intelligence Include nominations taking into consideration.
“With regards to the generator artificial intelligence and other digital tools used to produce films, the tools do not help or harm the possibility of achieving nominations. The academy and each branch judge the outcome by taking into account the creative author’s centre in selecting a film to award the film awards (Ampas). Share in a statement.
“When you’re using this type of technology, and yes, when you’re human beings involved, but not in the outcome, you’re putting your finger on the scale. What’s involved here is that AI is doing heavy lifting,” says Raymond Arroyo, a contributor to Fox News and host “Arroyo Grande” podcasttold Fox News Digital.
He continued, “This is fine for some film productions: even production design and scripting.[s] [making] Changes and plotlines, but there are human elements you want to rely on. Because humans are imperfect, and that is what makes art, and that makes human experience. In many ways, it’s a missed effort to be perfect and it’s fascinating. ”

The AI was already in use in Oscar-winning films this year. “Brutalist.”
Film editor Dávid Jancsó told Tech Magazine Red Shark News In January, the AI tools from Ukrainian software company Respeeher were used to improve the Hungarian dialogue that was spoken by the best actor at the Oscars and star Adrien Brody, who won the Felicity Jones this year.
“I am an Indigenous Hungarian speaker and I know that learning pronunciation is one of the hardest languages,” Jancsó told Red Shark. “It’s a very unique language. We coached [Brody and Jones] And they did an amazing job, but we wanted it to be perfect so even the locals didn’t discover the difference. ”
According to Jancsó, Brody and Jones recorded their voices into AI software, and he used his own voice for some of the dialects.

In Arroyo’s opinion, such perfection is not necessary.
“All the great stories are about heroes trying to achieve what really comes from his grasp beyond him,” he said. “But for AI, everything is within that grasp. And I’m worried that some of the craftsmanship and artistic choices will be delegated to computers rather than at another level of human interaction and collaboration.”
Arroyo is not visible AI completely replaces creatives It’s totally a general horror across Hollywood, but he believes it can have a negative impact on the artistic process.
“You always have a director, but if the set design is done by AI and the costume design is done by AI, your background music is done by AI.

Oscar also announced another rule change that surprised many.
Starting with upcoming ceremonies, academy members will need to watch all the nominated films in each category to qualify for votes in the final round.
For many years, anonymous Oscar voters They share votes in trade publications, and often admit that they have not seen the film or have finished the candidate for a long time.
Arroyo speculated that this could lead to fewer votes.

Oscar is troubled by DEI requirements “not in touch with the audience”: Experts
“I know a lot. Academy Members Not because they’re people who don’t vote at all, and they don’t like most movies on offer and don’t want to sit through them.
“But overall, it’s a good idea to consider at least the candidates that are voting at least in total. But I think they’re nominating too many people. You can’t get 10 movies to be nominated for the best movies. [of] award. ”
According to Ampas, most categories are voted by eligible members of each branch (such as costume costume voting, editor editors) but certain categories “may be open to members of all voting branches.”

Ampas has yet to laid out a methodology on how to implement this new system, leaving behind a grey area of how well it works.
“I don’t know how experts can spend that much time,” Arroyo said. “If they are directors, producers, actors, designers and they are constantly working, that’s a big time.
He suggested sending out a screener link that could show a survey about whether someone saw it or what will happen in the film, but suggested, “I think it will beat its own purpose, so they may have to bring it back.”
“That’s a good idea, but the answer is: We’re nominated and reducing categories, so we have 10 instead of 30,” Arroyo added.
