One of England’s great medieval churches is to offer once in a lifetime Vacation offers To history lovers – there are several conditions.
Winchester Cathedral, which dates back to 1093, announced that it will open a Deenary as a holiday rental in late July.
Usually home to the Cathedral’s dean, the Tudor-era Deanley, has been unused since the last dean resigned in March 2025. Rentals are available until a new one is appointed.

The Cathedral is known for being the longest medieval Gothic Cathedrals in Europe. Host City Winchester is located approximately 70 miles southeast of London in Hampshire County.
On that list, the church said that Deenary, who dates back to the reign of King Henry VIII, was the first time available as a vacation rental.

“The fact that Deanerie, originally built to entertain King Charles II of England, boasts features such as a 70-foot-long gallery and Roman mosaics on its porches, is set near the interior cathedral and within its residential community, including priests and Vergers,” the statement explains.
Deenary is also close to the Ichen River, one of England’s unique chalkstreams, with “a rich garden” filled with trees and flowerbeds, and “zinclear water.”
Visitors are not sleeping on their feet, but a Winchester Cathedral A spokesman told Fox News Digital that the cathedral nave is accessible.
“This appears to be the first example of a holiday offering a short stay for temporary guests within the cathedral building near the cathedral.”
Access includes tours and entry into the area, according to civil servants, “unusually open to the public unless accompanied by a guide.”

There are a few caveats to note with the offer. You will need to rent for at least 3 days and the full price is required when booking.
For a one-week stay, Deanary costs around $6,000; Christmas seasonit rises to around $7,300 a week.

In a funny twist, the Cathedral also noticed that the first family to rent Deanley was from the United States and happened to have the Winchester surname.

The Winchester Cathedral website notes that holiday rentals contribute to approximately $19,000 in maintenance costs per day.
