Wake Forest Principal Tom Walter apologized after a TV camera caught him, which appeared to appear to be using homophobic slur during DEMON DEACONS’ NCAA tournament game against Tennessee.
Walter said he didn’t watch the video that went viral on social media and said he didn’t remember moments during the game.
However, he acknowledged that his “language does not reflect my values or the standards of this program.”
“We are extremely sorry that it exploded into frustration last night, and we are aware of the wounds and disappointments that caused,” said Walter’s statement published by Wake Forest. “I own the results and I apologize University of TennesseeForest University, and SEC & ACC. ”

Wake Forest Assembly Director John Curry also issued a statement.
“During a baseball game last night, our head baseball coach Tom Walter was surprised and extremely disappointed by his explosion,” the statement said. “I feel bad for those hurting the most with those words. I spoke with Coach Walter right after the match. I dealt with this incident this morning, which is completely uncharacteristic for him and does not meet the standards of Wake Forest Archex, Wake Forest University or the Atlantic Coast Conference.”
Walter’s explosion On Monday night, volunteers rose 6-2, and their star’s first baseman Andrew Fisher cooked, and came at a critical moment for the Devil’s Butler. After Walter had some words at the Home Plate Judgment, the camera panned to the Wake Forest Dugout, where Walter appeared to scream a homophobic slur with Fisher on the plate.

The Vols left-handed batsman began destroying the two-run home with a 1-2 count to extend the Tennessee state’s lead to 8-2. Tennessee won 11-5 and eliminated Wake Forest from NCAA Tournament.
Walter, who leads Demon Butler, in his 16th season, is the second all-time leader of the programme to win 493 after this past campaign.
Wake Forest has consistently produced major league talent, including five first-round MLB drafts in 2023 and 2024.

Walter is just one of three active head coaches in the country leading three different programs in the NCAA Tournament. He previously coached George Washington and New Orleans.
