The University of Pennsylvania has found that “it is violating Title IX by refusing women to equal opportunities by allowing men to compete in women’s intercollegiate athletics and occupying intimate facilities exclusively for women.” Education Department The Civil Rights Office (OCR) was announced Monday.

“The little girl who respects Riley Gaines and Paula Scanlan can find hope in what they do today. The Trump administration will not allow male athletes to enter women’s private spaces or compete in female categories,” the deputy secretary for civil rights secretary said in a news release.
“Upenn continues to carry out extremist political projects that do the right thing for female students and either comply with Title IX in full anytime soon or violate the federal anti-discrimination laws and put UPenn’s federal funds at risk.”
Fox News Digital reached the University of Pennsylvania for comment.
The OCR requested that the school issue a statement regarding its intention to follow Title IX along with two other important actions.

“We restore all female athletes to similar recognitions for Division I swimming competitions misused by male athletes competing in all individual athletic records, titles, honors, awards or women’s categories.
“Send a letter to each female athlete whose individual awareness has been restored to express an apology on behalf of the university in order to allow sexism to undermine their educational experience in athletics.”
The issue stems from Leah Thomas’ participation in the women’s swimming team during the 2021-22 season, becoming the first transgender woman to win a national championship. Thomas also broke multiple records at school.

Thomas was able to compete at the NCAA Division I female level due to the organization’s gender participation policy at the time.
