“Based on the CBO estimates, the House Passed bill includes a tax cut of approximately $5.3 trillion, partially offset by an increase in revenues of $2.9 trillion and spending cuts,” the CRFB statement said. “Most importantly, the policy proposed by the Ways & Means Committee will increase the deficit online by $3.8 trillion, while the Energy & Commerce title policy will reduce the deficit by $1.1 trillion.
“OBBBA (One Big Beautiful Bill Act) is too much debt as written, and if the temporary provision is extended as intended, it could lead to much more financial damage than it would be reported,” the group said.
The bill noted that it would raise recent inflation, raise interest rates, add unnecessary complexity to tax laws, weaken market confidence and slow down long-term economic growth.
It urged the Senate to “take more responsibility” for the bill.
