president Donald Trump Secretary of State Marco Rubio is planning to review the National Security Council and shift its main functions to other institutions such as the state and the defense sector.
The move is the latest effort to slim down federal agencies, coming weeks after Trump announced the former. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz Departs his post at the White House, which oversees the agency.
Trump announced the same day that Waltz was appointed to serve as the UN ambassador.

Additionally, the restructuring will move Andy Barker, Vice President JD Vance’s national security advisor, and Robert Gabriel, assistant to the policy president, to the role of deputy national security advisor.
Axios was the first to report on plans to restructure the Trump administration. White House officials have confirmed Axios’ report to Fox News Digital.
White House officials involved in the plan said Trump and Rubio are driving change in their attempts to target Washington’s so-called “deep state.”
“The NSC is the ultimate deep state. It’s Marco vs. Deep State. We are hindering deep state,” a White House official told Axios.

The National Security Council is housed within the White House and provides guidance to the President on national security, military and foreign affairs.
Waltz’s withdrawal from the agency followed his involvement in a signalling chat controversy over a strike plan against the Hoosis in March.

Since Waltz’s departure earlier this month, Rubio has assumed the role of national security advisor. This, in addition to heading the State Department, acting archivist and acting administrator for the US International Development Agency, the administration aims to dismantle this year.

Fox News Digital was the first to report that the State Department plans to absorb the rest of the work.
