Appearing on the Fox News channel last year, Saban urged Congress to intervene and “equally”;
“And while it should still be present for all players, it is not just a pay system that we have, now the most money-raising people in a group can pay the players the most, this is not a level playing field.

“Now we just have state laws — and every state is different — it protects the NCAA from lawsuits by establishing guidelines for the future of college athletics. But the lawsuits have now led us to this point,” Saban said. “We need some protection from lawsuits. I don’t know if that’s an antitrust law or not.
“I’m not very familiar with everything to actually make recommendations, but I know that there’s a need for some kind of federal standards and guidelines that allow people to enforce their rules.”
The NCAA passed the rule last week. The rules allow the university to pay athletes as a result of a billion-dollar lawsuit settlement expected to come into effect this summer.
