A federal judge said Trump’s lawyers must quickly comply with her requests if they weighed the next steps in a politically charged case after being mistakenly deported to El Salvador last month.
US Judge Paula Sinis told Trump administration lawyers on Tuesday that he would take two weeks to comply with the discovery request in Abrego Garcia’s case, and Trump officials admitted that in the case of Abrego Garcia, who was deported to El Salvador last month, Trump officials admitted that it was a “control error.”
“We will cancel our holidays and cancel other appointments,” Xinis told lawyers at a hearing Tuesday evening.
She also said she would issue an order instructing the government to show her how they complied with her orders to promote Abrego Garcia’s release from El Salvador.
Two weeks later, she weighs the submissions of the findings and decides whether the government acted in good faith or whether there is evidence to preempt the potential denial process.

At the beginning of the hearing, Sinis stressed that, in her view, the Supreme Court has “already told” the United States to promote the release of Abrego Garcia and resume immigration lawsuits.
“We’re going to do it in a targeted way, but we’re not going to spend a lot of time doing it,” Xinis said of the discovery process.
A Justice Department lawyer said she disagreed with the Supreme Court decision and her views on a prompt finding.
“Everyone knows what my current thoughts are, so Abrego Garcia has already won his impending lawsuit,” Xinis told Trump’s lawyers at the start of the hearing. “We’re here today to talk about the scope of the remedy.”
“You had a jurisdiction debate. You had a venue debate,” Xinis, a Justice Department lawyer told Drew Ensign. “You discussed merit. You lost.”
Minutes before the hearing, DHS deputy Joseph Mazzarra said in a court filing that once he is returned to the US, DHS would detain him and take him to another third country, citing alleged MS-13 membership.
The hearings were taken to promote his return after government lawyers failed to comply with multiple directives renewing the court on his location and custody status – the lack of compliance Xinis, previously said to be “very nasty”.

Abrego Garcia’s lawyers argued Tuesday there was no evidence that the Trump administration has taken previous steps to promote a return to the United States as soon as possible, as ordered by Xinis last week and endorsed by the Supreme Court.
“The Supreme Court order requires the government to “promote” the release of Abrego Garcia. From detention in El Salvador And to ensure that his case is processed if he is not inappropriately sent to El Salvador,” his lawyer wrote.
They noted that the government updates “does not show that measures are being taken to comply with federal and Supreme Court decisions.”
An obvious refusal to the administration’s actions, or even clarifying Abrego Garcia’s position — pushed the case to a boiling point, raising the prospect that Xinis could move to hold the Trump administration in civil cont.

The hearing is the latest in a gust of a legitimate battle centered around Trump’s ability to deport certain immigrants from the United States to El Salvador.
Most recently, two federal judges from Texas and New York agreed to temporarily block them. Trump administrationThe use of the Alien Enemy Act of 1798 protects the plaintiff’s claim that allowing immigration from US soil immediately and allows removal under the law would likely cause immediate and irreparable damage.
In Brownsville, US District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. cited the “substantial possibility” that the individual in question “could not be able to return it to the United States.”
In addition to submitting an incomplete status update and refusing to answer questions about Abrego Garcia’s location and efforts to secure returns, Trump officials proposed on Monday that the US lacks the authority to bring him back.

Asked Monday about his progress on bringing Abrego Garcia back to US soil, Trump officials said his return was “to El Salvador” and that the US would “provide planes.”
“If they want to return him, it’s up to El Salvador,” Attorney General Pam Bondy told reporters. “That’s not up to us.”
The allegations were supported by other cabinet officials, including White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, and Salvador President Bukere himself.
“How can I get him back to the US? Just like if I smuggled him into the US?” Bukel told reporters Monday during a sit-in with the president. Donald Trump Other senior government officials.
“Of course I’m not going to do that. The question is ridiculous,” he said.
