Taylor Fritz became the first male American tennis player to finish the semi-finals after beating Karen Khachanoff in four sets in the men’s quarterfinals at Wimbledon on Tuesday Wimbledon Since 2018.
John Isner was the last American to reach the semi-finals of Grass Court Tournament.
The 27-year-old Fritz scored 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, and 7-6 (4). The Americans dominated the first two sets as they won 40 of their 47 service points and did not face a break in that range.

However, in the third set, the match was turned over as Khachanov won eight of the next nine games. Fritz said he had never seen him turn the match that fast.
“He definitely started playing a little better, but I feel like he gave him a lot of hope by not being the best game to start a third set, but I’ve never really changed the match changes that made me feel like I’m in control.
“I felt like I was putting a lot of pressure on his serve, and I felt like I started making lots of mistakes out of nowhere. Before, I felt like I couldn’t miss it, and all of a sudden I’m making a lot of mistakes.

Fritz was 2-0 behind in the fourth set, but tied together to win the set with a tiebreak. The world’s No. 5 player said he felt it was “great” to get through it.
“I’m happy to get through it. The match feels like it’s going very well for the two sets. I’ve never really done a flip anytime soon. I’m really happy that I’ve come back to the 4 sets for a bit and accomplished it. I definitely couldn’t get into the fifth (set),” Fritz said.
Fritz entered the game with a 1-4 record in the major quarter final, with 2-0 at Wimbledon. The 27-year-old was the runner-up We are open last year.
“That’s an amazing feeling,” Fritz said of making his first Wimbledon semi-final.

“Obviously, I played the quarterfinals here twice and lost five times, so I don’t think I could have taken another one, so I’m really happy to be able to play the semifinals here.”
Khachanov fell 0-11 in a grand slam match against an opponent ranked in the top five by loss.
Fritz will either face Spanish two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz or face British unseeded Cam Nolly for Bath in Friday’s final.
