Game 1 Stanley Cup playoffsThe Western Conference Finals between the Dallas Star and the Edmonton Oilers began at high intensity and closed in the same way Wednesday night.
Power play target onslaught from Star Player Mike Heskanen, Michael Granland and Matt Duchene gave Dallas 6-3 wins in the third term. The star dragged the Oilers with two goals at one point before going back for an unlikely victory.

When the horns rang, several players from the star and oil cannon mixed it together on the centre ice cream. The broadcast captured Edmonton defensive man Corey Perry chasing star rookie Leanne Bichel. After staff disbanded the scrum, Perry appeared to be ocking the players.
Dallas left ice with a 1-0 lead in the series over Edmonton.
Star head coach Pete DeBoer was pleased with how the team could utilize the power play. Dallas was 14-0 in six playoff games Oilers.
“We didn’t feel like we had the position they were in in the 40 minutes we were in (the Oilers) so the guys responded. We were lucky. We achieved some power play goals,” Deboer said. “I’m happy with our power play. At this point last year, we needed a lot of heat last year. It was a difference tonight, so it’s great.”

Dallas has become the second team since 1934 to achieve three power play targets in the six-minute opening of the playoff period. The New York Rangers did it in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Montreal Canadiens in 2014.
“The first power play was a bit similar to the rest of the game. We had a bit of a break from our run. We didn’t play great on the puck. “Third, we came out and ran. I don’t think we know when that switch is going.
“Obviously, we’re home here for this game, so we got that first goal, the crowd gets into it and the momentum changes really fast. That’s the advantage of being home here for Game 1.”
