Sly Stone, funk music pioneer and Family Stone leader, dies at 82

Sly and Family Stone frontman Slystone died after a long battle with COPD, a lung condition. He was 82 years old.

Stone’s family shared a statement with Fox News Digital.

“It is a profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved dad, Sly Sly Stone and his family’s stone. After a long battle with COPD and other underlying health issues, Sly dies peacefully, surrounded by his three children, closest friends and his extended family,” the statement began.

“We lamented his absence, and were comforted to learn that his extraordinary musical legacy continues to resonate and inspire generations.
