Rory McIlroy explains why he skipped the media session PGA Championship last month.
This time, McIlroy spoke to a reporter for the RBC Canada Open on Wednesday. He admitted that the driver was “P-Edoff” after being considered non-conforming and unusable after pre-Tournament testing.
McIlroy never spoke to reporters throughout the four rounds at Quail Hollow Club, where he ended up Tournament 3 Oversgood for the T-47th.

Unlike other major sports leagues in the country, the PGA Tour does not require golfers to talk to the media. McIlroy “understands” the benefits of media coverage during tournaments, but “he said that if we all wanted, we can all bypass you, go to social media, talk about the round and do our own way,” he said.
“If they want it to be mandatory, that’s fine. But by our rules, we say it’s not. You’ll have them skip every now and then until the day it’s written in the regulations and that’s within our rights.”

McIlroy, who completed his career grand slam this year with a victory at the Masters, is hoping to win the fourth of this PGA Tour season at TPC Toronto this week at Osprey Valley.
If he could do so, he’ll be able to get momentum heading towards the Oakmont Country Club next week for next week’s third major, the US Open.
