Excavators working in the ancient Catholic church in Italy recently found the head of an ancient god, an even older religious symbol.
Appian Way Regional Park has announced its discovery on Facebook. A park in Rome said it had recently said goodbye to the “beautiful stone head.”
The head was discovered during the excavation of St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Kaelian Hill, built in the 5th century.

“[It was] Recently discovered Archaeological Area Via Latina’s grave, as it departs [the city of] Matera said, “I have read the park’s April 10th statement.
“Therefore, Matera’s Central Restoration Institute (ICR) is the involvement of students from the Advanced Training Department for Repair, and the ICR handles documentation, research into implementation techniques, and diagnostics of artifacts.”

The photo shows a statue sporting a curly head, but has since deteriorated clearly and has lost its character.
Experts say the bearded man pictured on the head of the statue was “probably a god.”
It was discovered at the foundations of the church.
“As a result, the face is covered in important mortars that prevent a complete reading,” the park said.

APPIAN Way Regional Park added that the collaboration with ICR is aimed at “promoting standards for shared methods and innovative scientific protocols in the fields of archaeology and recovery.”
