“I am running for Michigan’s great governor,” James shared in an X’s statement.

“Faith and family. God and nation. Serve before self. Michigan first,” James wrote in the announcement.
James says “our state has been suffering long enough,” and is bound by a “lack of strong and capable leadership.”
“For the past seven years, Michigan has been dominated by radical, out-of-touch policies that have hurt our families, our communities and our economy,” James explained in reason to run for governor.
James said the state has lost more than 300,000 manufacturing jobs since the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
“Now is the time to drive Michigan’s government out of Fantastisland and return to common sense,” James wrote.
“President Trump and I have been in the corner, now eight years, thick, thin, horns. He is once again doing his part to make America great. I will do my thing to bring prosperity and sanity back to Michigan,” James pledged.

James was first elected to Congress in 2022, becoming a member of Michigan’s first Black Republican Congress and representing the state’s 10th Congressional District.
James will also become Michigan’s first black governor if elected.

He previously ran twice for the Senate, losing to Democrat Debbie Stavenaud in 2018 and Democrat Sen. Gary Peters in 2020.
“Michigan great again,” James wrote in a previous post on X, sharing a video of 47 quick responses about Flint, Michigan.
James served as a Ranger-qualified Air Officer for eight years in active duty. According to his biographies on the district website.
Zach Bannon, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, said James’ announcement was good news for Republicans for continued growth in Congress.

“Republicans are well positioned to hold Michigan’s 10th Congressional District as we retain and grow our majority in Congress. Michigan rejected Touch Democrats’ radical agenda in 2024. We’ll do that again in 2026.”
Bannon looked at both. President Trump Rep. James won Michigan’s District 10 in 2024 over 6%.
