Cincinnati Reds Starr Ellie de la Cruz paid tribute to her sister who learned she died the day before the game, hitting an emotional home run against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
De La Cruz hit a two-run home run and crossed the plate twice in a 7-3 loss to the Reds’ Cubs.

Reds Manager Terry Francona Shortstop said he wanted to play in the game despite dealing with feelings from the death of his sister Generis.
“He is extremely proud of being available,” Francona said. “These people, Carlos Santana of Cleveland, were very similar. For a young child, it’s a stunning feature.”
Francona added that eras like this offer good reminders about things “really important.”
“We’re very concerned about playing the game and winning, but in a hurry you remember what’s really important,” Francona said. “So I think everyone is just trying to spin his head with him today and take care of him.”
