“The team toured the White House today as part of a family road trip to DC,” a team spokesman said. Via MassLive.
Teams that normally visit the White House to visit the president are saved to celebrate the championship, but apparently an exception has been made.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora has been critical of Trump in the past – he visited the White House in 2019 and opted out to commemorate the team’s World Series title the previous year.
Interviewed “Mayor’s Office” Cora, who was podcast in January, admitted that she skipped meeting Trump because she wanted to prioritize her Puerto Rico home country. When the Red Sox visited the White House in May 2019, Puerto Rico had recovered from the destruction of Hurricane Maria in 2017, and Kora was not satisfied with the federal response.

“One of that – that’s not that I regret, but I think it should have been more clear – it was a visit to the White House,” Kora said. “At that moment, I have nothing to the president. At that moment, President Trump was Donald Trump, and I felt that he was celebrating something at that stage. [Puerto Ricans] I was still struggling, that was a bad thing. I wasn’t comfortable doing it. ”
Kora says at the time he felt “adorable” to celebrate “nasty” at the White House, given his country’s state.
“We are part of the United States,” he continued. “What they do for us is amazing – fundraising, all of that – but there was still work to do and we felt like, “Let’s celebrate this at the White House.” Many people were suffering here.
Mookie Betts also chose to skip visits that year, but he attended a celebration of reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this year.
