Although he was fighting the illness, Aries jumped onto the microphone with Joe Dombrowski to summon the event.
“It feels good,” Aries said she returned to MLW. “It’s been a bit recalibrated. I’ve not been at MLW for years. I haven’t worked with them on several occasions in my career. It never lasted.
“So when I was given the opportunity to go back to fold and do it behind the commentary desk, it was definitely something I wanted to take them up.”
Aries had previous experience at the announcer’s table.
He called it a December 2016 WWE NXT Roadblock: End of the Line Premium Live event with Michael Cole and the Corey Glaves and part of the weekly programming.

He told Fox News Digital that he took inspiration from legendary commentators and managers Bobby Heenan and Jesse Ventura.
“I’m trying to be a version of myself, but those guys definitely influence my style. “I think the other thing I enjoyed about them was that as a color commentator, we competed with the perspective of actually being in the ring. That’s the overall perspective that we can give the opinion that commentators who weren’t in the ring can’t provide.”
Aries was a champion decorated with rings.
He was a three-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion, six-time TNA X-Division Champion and two-time Honor World Champion, and was ranked 12th in 2013 on Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Top 500 Wrestler List.
Aries, now 47, said the role of transitioning to commentator is the right move. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s finished in the ring yet.
“I had the opportunity to give commentary while I was with WWE. It was something that was opened up after my injury, and I really enjoyed it and felt comfortable doing it. And it was deep inside me, and as it started slowing down my ring career, I thought it would probably be an opportunity I wanted to pursue.
“MLW approached me and asked if that was what I wanted to do. So I felt like, 47, I was still struggling. From there.”
Aries will be calling for MLW’s next event, Azteca Lucha, in Chicago on May 10th.
