“God’s people are not confined to the borders of the nation,” Sullivan said, “At this point he is not American. He is God’s child, and that’s how he guides and tries to take all people into consideration.”
Nevertheless, Father Gregory Sakovic, president of Chicago’s Holy Name Cathedral, said, “You can never deny your roots. So I’m sure he has a love for Chicago, a love for America. That’s part of his upbringing.”

With a smile, Sakovic said, “One of the fiery questions I have is the fact that the Pope, the 14th Leo, or Cardinal, then Robert Prevost, was born in Chicago, south. Is he a fan of the Chicago White Sox?”
Sakowicz said he didn’t know if Leo is a White Sox fan, but he knows “he’s a Cubs fan.”
“I heard he’s a Cubs fan. Well, God bless him, God bless all his fans,” Sakovic said.
