One of the most loved people in Pittsburgh Pirates Dave Parker’s history has passed away, the MLB franchise confirmed on Saturday. He was 74 years old.
Parker, known affectionately as “Cobra,” was appointed by Seven. MLB All-Star Team. He has scored over 2,700 hits and hit 339 homers during his storied big league career.
He received National League MVP honors in his outstanding season in 1978.

He is best known for his tenure with the Pirates, but Parker also served with the Cincinnati Reds, track and field, the Milwaukee Brewers and two other MLB clubs.

Parker passed away two months before he was scheduled to be enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.

The Pirates paid tribute to Parker in a moment of silence before the home game New York Mets Saturday.

Parker was a key part of the 1979 Pirates’ World Series winning team. He was also a member of the Athletics’ 1989 World Series Championship team.
The Pirates honored the former star, saying that news of Parker’s death was “grief” the franchise.

“It’s sad that he’s not physically there to be no physical enthusiasm in Cooperstown less than a month later, but I’m pleased that he’s finally passed safely with the knowledge that will reside in eternally during the immortality of baseball.

Parker was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013.
