Schumer criticised the Trump administration and the Save Act, calling it the “antithesis of democracy.”
“Donald Trump and the Republicans have put our elections in the election from the Vice President, and on the other hand we have stated executive orders from the president, and dangerous laws from the other Congress,” he said in his speech. “They understand the sanctity of elections and keep them fair. The kind of legislation, a kind of executive order, that is diagonally diagonally on one side of the party, is the antithesis of democracy.”

The home-passed save law passed 220-20-208 earlier this month. It will move to the Senate, where Democrats will need Democrats’ support to meet the 60 vote threshold for progress. Schumer suggested on Wednesday that this would not be likely to happen.
“Let me be clear: I won’t become this harmful bill, save act, law. All Democrats oppose it. They need 60 votes. The save act is dead on arrival.”
