“Providence City Hall displays a variety of flags throughout the year to mark different opportunities and honor the many ethnic and cultural backgrounds and traditions that make our city stronger,” a Providence City Council spokesman told Fox News Digital on Wednesday.
The spokesman added that the city has flew Dominican flags, Ireland flags, Armenian flags and Israel flags in recent months.

“Like these examples, the idea came to us from the community as part of a demand to celebrate the important role Palestinian Americans play in our beautiful and diverse urban fabrics,” the spokesman said.
Council Chairman Rachel Miller will post the flag outside city hall on Friday at City Council meeting Thursday.
When asked about the decision, representatives of Democratic mayor Brett Smiley suggested that the ceremony was a city council privilege.
