Former President Barack Obama’s White House doctor said in a new interview that former President Joe Biden’s doctor should do cognitive tests to assess his fitness.
Obama’s doctor Jeffrey Courman said Washington Post Biden White House doctor Kevin O’Connor should have had Biden’s cognitive tests during last year, given his age, as president.
O’Connor, who first appointed Biden’s doctor when Kuhlman was vice president in 2009, declared in a 2024 report that the then 81-year-old president “continued to be fit for his duties.” The report does not mention neurocognitive testing.
“Sometimes, those closest to the trees miss the forest,” Kurman told the Post.
“It should be fitness, not just health,” Courman said. “Fitness: Do you have a robust mind, body, and mind that can do tough physical, mental and emotional jobs?”
Trump responded to Biden’s autopen probe fire and said he didn’t know “what was going on.”

Kuhlman, who left the White House medical unit in 2013, described O’Connor as a “good doctor” who appears to be doing his best to “give reliable medical advice.”
“I didn’t think he was intentionally hiding things, but I don’t know,” Courman told the Post. “Perhaps the investigation will show that.”
President Donald Trump on Wednesday ordered Attorney General Pam Bondy to investigate whether Biden’s aide “has abused the power of the president’s signature through the use of an autopen to hide Biden’s cognitive decline and assert Article II powers.”
“This conspiracy is one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history,” the order says. “While the American people were intentionally protected from discovering who used enforcement, Biden’s signatures were deployed in thousands of documents, leading to radical policy changes.”
“Let’s be clear. We’ve made a decision during the presidency,” Biden said in a statement Wednesday night. “I have made decisions on pardons, executive orders, laws and declarations.
Trump’s order appeared to nod to the discovery of special advisor Robert Huar, who investigated the processing of documents classified while Biden was vice president.
In a report released in February 2024, Hart concluded that Biden “deliberately held it and “published sensitive material, but should not endure the trial.” Har cited cases where he couldn’t remember any important dates or events, including when Biden served as vice president and when his son Beau died. The report was released while Biden was still planning to run a second term.
Last week, Chair of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer, R-KY. issued an O’Connor subpoena to appear for deposits later this month as part of an investigation into the cover-up of President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline and potentially unrelenting issuance.

The committee reposted an interview with Kuhlman in the post on X, saying, “Even Obama’s doctors acknowledge the truth. This is precisely why Chair @Repjamescomer summoned Biden’s doctor Dr. Kevin O’Connor. This is a historic proportions scandal and we’ll investigate it in depth!”
In a letter to O’Connor, Comer said the transcribed interview would focus on a February 2024 assessment that Biden is “a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old man who is suited to perform his presidential duties well.”
“Of other subjects, the committee has expressed interest in whether your financial relationship with the Biden family will fulfill your presidential duties in assessing former President Biden’s physical and mental fitness,” wrote Comer.
Questions about Biden’s cognitive state stretches beyond Republicans only.
CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’s Alex Thompson recently published a book entitled “Original Sin.”
In the book, Tupper and Thompson wrote, “Five of them ran the country, Joe Biden was at best a senior member of the board.”

Naomi Biden, the granddaughter of the former president, dismissed the book as “a political fairy smut for a permanent, professional chat class.”

Comer requested a transcribed interview with Biden’s senior White House adviser Mike Donilon and former White House Chief of Staff Ron Crane Anita Dunn. He also called for former White House aides Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal, Ashley Williams and Neela Tanden to appear before the committee, suggesting that subpoena would approach if they did not schedule a voluntary interview.
