Northrop Grumman produces important semiconductor chips in the US
Based in Virginia Defense company Fox Business Correspondent Max Gorden produces millions of chips in the United States each year, reported Friday from his Baltimore, Maryland plant.
At the facility, Gorden showed “wafers” that contain “thousands of microchips.”
“They’re all here and they’re finally cut off towards the end of the process,” he explained.

He also showed them a “clean room” where Northrop Grumman staff said they were “actually testing these microchips” before leaving the production line.

The company manufactures chips for use in military aircraft, defense rader systems, electronic warfare systems, and space and weather satellites. Other technologiesaccording to Northrop Grumman.
Chip production usually takes “a few weeks,” but defense companies say, “If there’s a national security need, things can be speeded up.” In Goden.
Chips can average anywhere from “several cents” to “hunds of thousands of dollars” depending on complexity, he reported.
Dave Shahin, senior manager at Northrop Grumman, told Fox Business that microelectronics built at the Maryland facility “is at the heart of these defense systems.”

“They are the brain and nervous system, and those sensors react to the world around them, and ultimately allow them to do their job and keep us up. Fighter plane It’s safe,” Shahin said.
Northrop Grumman has been producing chips entirely in the US for decades, but is in a “good position,” Gordon reported.

The Trump administration is considering the possibility of impose tariffs on semiconductors imported into the US, and President Donald Trump said earlier this week that tips from other countries could face tariffs later this month. Countries such as Taiwan, China and South Korea are some of the major producers of semiconductors.
In addition to microelectronics, Northrop Grumman produces a wide range of military aircraft, defense weapons and systems, mission systems and other technologies.

The company’s market capitalization had hovered around $74.644 billion as of Friday afternoon.
