“Alex has full support from the organization in prioritizing his long-term health and quality of life,” Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimon said in a statement. “Alex deals with hips that require bilateral femoral reconstruction without guaranteeing success. Throughout the season, the steps required to allow Alex to play and practice began to grow and take a big blow to his body.”
McCrimmon said the team hoped that treatment and rest were enough to bring him back on the ice during the outbound breaks of four countries.
“…but instead, what we found was a process of positive outcomes and a process that was no longer sustainable, and Alex went through a major challenge in pursuing his goal of giving the game and the Golden Knights everything and winning another Stanley Cup in Vegas.
“He is one of the most respected players in the league, not only for his elite talent, but also for his character, leadership, competitiveness and professionalism. Today’s decisions are difficult for both Alex and Golden Knight, but it’s made for the right reasons.

Pietrantero signed a seven-year contract with the Golden Knights in October 2020, helping the team win the Stanley Cup title in 2023. St. Louis Blues.
