The long wait for Chedur Sanders finally ended on a Saturday afternoon.
Cleveland The Browns traded up In the fifth round to choose Sanders. Shortly after his NFL career began in Cleveland, Sanders shared a short but emotional message with X: “Thank you God.”

Dion SandersShedale’s father and the Colorado Buffaloes head coach previously offered advice as they aimed to become an NFL quarterback. Sanders’ message revolved around the Browns, and began recirculation shortly after his son was drafted by the exact same franchise.

“I love that @browns did this offseason, but if it’s not the way young QB goes to Cleveland. If possible, I’ll pull Eli Manning,” Sanders wrote in a March 2018 social media post.
Manning is expected to be the top pick in 2004, with the number one pick in the charger. However, the franchise had a reputation as a destination that young quarterbacks should avoid. Manning’s agent reportedly notified the charger that his client would sit for the entire season if the team drafted him. Manning’s family reportedly was involved, and the quarterback was drafted, New York Giants.
Deion previously declared that “it’s going to be Eli” when Shedeur and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter explained how to handle the draft. He later revealed that he would not “adjust” where his son fell in the draft.

The Browns used the No. 1 overall pick at quarterback Baker Mayfield the month after Sanders mentioned the aforementioned 2018 Social Media Post.
This is not the first time one of Sanders’ social media posts has failed to age positively.

Last May, Coach Prime declared that his son would be “a top five pick.”

“He’s going to be a top five pick. Where will his son go? Sanders wrote in X May 1st, 2024. The post features a note saying, “Chedur Sanders was not a top five draft topic.”
At the time, Sanders was responding to comments referring to Colorado’s 2023 record. This was his first year with Boulder, a father-son duo. “Stop your coldest son here and post 4-8 seasons,” read the first post.

Sanders finished the 2024 season with 4,134 yards. He joins Cleveland’s busy quarterback room. The room will feature Desshaun Watson, Joe Flaco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.
Watson then re-inflicted his Achilles heel in January. The latest setback is widely expected to stand by three Pro Bowlers throughout the 2025 season. Watson pushed back for that timetable. Flacco reunited with the Browns earlier this month after spending the 2024 season with the Indianapolis Colts. Cleveland acquired Pickett in March through trade with the Eagles.
The Browns handed Sanders in the third round on Friday, using the No. 94 pick for Gabriel instead.
