NFL teams are much more likely to make mistakes Drawing of the quarterback Rather than they make the right choice.
And in many cases, teams make bad mistakes as well I’ll hand over the quarterbackdefeating him and being taken to his rival, which dominates the team that handed him for many seasons to come.
The final eight drafts have a frenzy every year amid these mistakes, with work to the general manager and sleep to many passionate fans.
These mistakes are one of the most consequential moments that have shaped the current NFL hierarchy.

2017 Draft-10 Team Passes Patrick Mahomes, Bears Pick Mitch Trubisky

The Chief of Kansas City, the NFL’s current and outstanding dynasty species, was planted in 2017 when 10 teams handed over Patrick Mahomes.
The Browns, Bears, 49ers, Jaguars, Titans, Jets, Chargers, Panthers and Bengalis all decided that Mahomes wasn’t worth the first round pick before he fell on his bill at age 10.
The bill also decided not to take Mahomes with him, but for the next eight years they agreed to trade their picks for the chief to make matters worse for themselves. The bill will acquire a franchise quarterback a year later, but since then it has sent Mahomes to Kansas City to beat the Bills in four consecutive playoff games.
But at least the bill got something through trade. The Bears were the only other teams bold enough to score a quarterback in the top 10, but used the picks at Mitchell Trubisky, leaving Chicago just four seasons later.
Meanwhile, the other eight teams who passed the Mahomes don’t currently have one quarterback with the MVP Award or Super Bowl Ring.

2018 Draft – 2 QB filmed before Joshua Allen. 4 QBS, 31 picks taken before Lamar Jackson
In 2018, when Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson joined Mahomes in the NFL, the great NFL quarterbacks of the current generation began to take shape.
However, a potential franchise mistake had to first occur before any of these two MVPs were collected.
The Browns used the No. 1 pick at Baker Mayfield that year. This was a surprise to many people. Mayfield wasn’t the biggest mistake in that draft, leading Cleveland to his first playoff victory. However, in hindsight, taking over Allen and Jackson, the Browns left a lot of second speculation since, especially now that Mayfield is gone.

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold
The Jets may be even less than their decision to take over Allen and Jackson with their decision to take over Sam Darnold. Darnold never approached sniffing the playoffs in just three seasons with the Jets, and was more memorable in “Ghosts,” notorious for his poor performance in 2019.
Plus, he quickly gave the Jets the next big bully to the big bully, having to deal with New England’s Tom Brady.
However, the team with the biggest quarterback blunder since 2018 was the Arizona Cardinals, who decided to trade with the No. 10 pick to take Josh Rosen with them. Allen had already left at that point after the bill was traded to #7 to get him, but Cardinal’s decision to admit Rosen produced one of the lowest returns for quarterback trade-ups in recent history.
Rosen continued for a season in Arizona, becoming 3-10 as a starter before being exiled, and had to practice backup and team roles until 2022.
Meanwhile, many other teams have made the mistake of not taking Jackson afterwards, and he fell to the final pick of the first round before the Ravens were traded back to the round to secure future MVPs.
2019 Draft – Giants Pick Daniel Jones, then Redskins welcomes Dwayne Haskins
The Cardinals paid off by Josh Rosenbrand with their worst NFL record in 2018 and first pick in the 2019 draft.
They took Kyler Murray and they couldn’t really do anything better in terms of quarterbacks for that year’s draft. Still, Murray wasn’t close to Jackson’s type of quarterback.
As history has shown, Murray has left the board and the other teams have been picked up from the QB’s very poor draft class leftovers.
The Giants took Daniel Jones to sixth place. In 2018, the Giants were one of many teams who made the mistake of passing Allen and Jackson to build around Eli Manning for at least a year.
By the 2019 draft, they had to abandon that vision and scramble to find an alternative. So they ended up with Jones. And to be fair, the Giants probably wouldn’t have done much better in their classes that year.
Many critics initially believed that the Giants made a QB pick mistake that year by bringing Jones to the late Dwayne Haskins.

However, with the Ohio star only lasting two seasons in Washington, the Redskins’ choice proved to be an even smaller profit. Haskins passed away in April 2022 after being attacked by a vehicle on the road.
Johnny Manziel was almost drafted by the chief, changing the course of history and his life
Jones lasted five and a half seasons in New York, winning a playoff game and signing his second contract. But his often lost trends, and lack of a Pro Bowl, were not enough to cut it far more than that. His stint with the Giants ended midway through the 2024 season.
Simply put, it may be better for both Washington and the Giants not to sign quarterbacks in 2019.
2020 Draft – The Jalen hurts the debate
It’s one of the most recent drafts filmed by a recent top quarterback when the best picks came in 2020.
The Bengals took Joe Barrow after one of the most decorated college careers of all time. And after an injured rookie year, Barrow quickly joined the company of the best quarterbacks of this generation.
But the real second quarterback in that draft is still debatable.
Justin Herbert’s Chargers pick and Tua Tagovailoa’s dolphin pick gave each franchise to current star quarterbacks, both making the playoffs.
However, these teams also have the distinction of passing Jalen Harts, who won the Super Bowl and played for another with the Eagles, but Herbert and Tagovailoa have not yet won one playoff game.
However, both Tagovailoa and Herbert in particular have better average passing numbers than painful, and generally play a major role in attacks.
Therefore, the Chargers and Dolphins’ decision to pass on Herbert might be considered suspicious, not a full-fledged mistake.
Still, the Eagles won the Value Battle by suffering a wound in the second round. Philadelphia managed the resources to build a better core than the other teams that chose quarterbacks in 2020, and even Barrow’s Bengali language.
2021 Draft-49erer, Jet, Bears and Patriots get backup quality with Premium Picks
Like 2020, the 2021 draft is also a draft that the filmed top quarterbacks can be considered the best. However, in 2021, the standard for that title was much lower.
And, like in 2019, any team that chose a quarterback after the first overall place would be better off getting a position player instead.
After Jaguar took Trevor Lawrence, he became a decent franchise quarterback, but the lack of promise from a generation of shiny experts is that there is no QB pick that can be considered a successful starter.
Zach Wilson didn’t even achieve average quality plays with the Jets, and in some way provided him as a backup to Aaron Rodgers over a full-time starter.
Trey Lance barely played for the 49ers. In fact, Lance’s 49ers’ picks could have had the biggest impact on the recent NFL history of any quarterback in 2021, as they would take the opportunity to draft players who may have changed the outcome of deep playoff runs in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The Bears ultimately gave up on the top 10 pick and traded to No. 11 to win Justin Fields, but Fields’ tenure in Chicago ended when he suddenly got the chance to gain better prospects after just three seasons.
Mc Jones’ choice at Patriot’s No. 15 was at least a valuable pick, winning a Pro Bowl nod and playoff anchorage. However, his days as a starter ended after less than three seasons.
2022 Draft – Block’s Purdy Discussion
The only quarterback worth mentioning coming out of the 2022 draft class was the final pick, Brock Purdy.
After whining at Lance a year ago, the 49ers scored a low-risk chance at Purdy with a No. 262 pick. And after a string of injuries to Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, Purdy appeared in 2023 as the main man on the 49ers team with a realistic Super Bowl aspirations and a Super Bowl appearance.
The comparison with Tom Brady began immediately. Still, it seems that no one speaks exactly the same way they do about Brady about the pain of passing on Brock Purdy. At least not yet.
2023 Draft – Panthers pass CJ Stroud and get Bryce Young at the expense of a more valuable pick

The scout said it might be too small for Blythe Young to leave college. And Young proved them throughout the first year and a half of his NFL career.
Young played so poorly for the Panthers as a rookie that the first round pick they traded came in first place, and he became the Bears’ first pick the following year.
The Bears then used the pick to steal a much more coveted prospect at Caleb Williams.
It was an aggressive deal that the Panthers had the opportunity to pay, but they decided to pass on CJ Stroud for Young.
Panthers fans had to watch Stroud Excel as this year’s rookie, but their own losses were all in the bear’s interest.
To be fair, Young changed things a little at the end of his second season. But until further notice, the Panthers’ decision is on track to be one of the biggest QB drafts in league history.

2024 Draft – Too early to call, but Washington has won the race so far
Williams showed his generation of gloss flashes as a rookie in 2024, but eventually turned pale compared to the quarterback who shot two picks after him with Jaden Daniels.
After Daniels led Washington to the NFC title game as a rookie of the year, Williams has done a lot to justify being taken before him.
Now, Washington could become one of the most transcendent teams potentially in 2025, and Daniels was able to quickly make his own mark on NFL history.
And if another year like 2024 passes for Washington and Chicago, the conversation about Williams and Daniels could be very similar to what they soon experienced about Young and Stroud.
