Five current or former Iowa football coaching staff have been punished NCAA Sports gambling involves betting on school boys and girls’ basketball programs. They are not facing criminal charges.
In total, five coaches combined to create over 6,200 online bets totaling over $100,000 in the game. Some of those bets came at professional events, some were on University sports.
Violations are classified as Level II. This could undermine the integrity of the NCAA university model.

Coaches are Jace Heecock, Chase Clark, Michael Dryer, Kyle Highland and Mason Williams.
One of the five currently employed in the athletic department of another school must attend the annual NCAA Regional Rules Seminar at his own expense and provide a two-week suspension during the show’s existence period. All of these are eligible for show-caused orders for the year ending April 24, 2026.
Heecock, son of defensive coordinator John Heecock, was a soccer alumni assistant in 2021 and 2022. He was hired as director of football analysis on April 24th. His biography on the athletic website found that he went from where he worked in 2023 and 2024 to $55,599.
Clark, a former assistant director of football equipment operations, placed 2,305 bets totaling around $18,676, including 46 bets on ISU men’s and women’s basketball. He is currently an assistant equipment manager for the Detroit Lions.

The dryer, a former assistant to equipment operations, placed 1,182 bets totaling around $11,536, including 25 bets on ISU boys and girls basketball. He currently works for a sports goods company sales.
Former football recruiting operations assistant Highland has placed 509 bets totaling around $6,365, including eight bets on ISU men’s and women’s basketball. He is currently the assistant director of the Army’s soccer operations.
Williams, a former associate with Athletics Equipment Operations, placed 1,455 bets totaling around $11,679, including 12 bets on ISU men’s and women’s basketball. He is currently the head equipment manager at Valparaiso.
Five were identified during a state investigation into sports betting activities at campus athletic facilities from 2021 to 2023.

The state’s Criminal Investigation Bureau handed over the names of five men to Iowa officials as part of an investigation into minor online sports betting at universities across the state. Dozens of athletes from Iowa and Iowa have been caught in stab wounds and have been charged with gambling and identity theft, among other things, by minors.
Many of the athletes pleaded guilty and paid fines. The charges were dismissed against others. More than 30 athletes have participated in civil lawsuits against DCI, claiming that the agency has violated their rights and smeared their reputation.
