Dick Barnett, basketball hall of fame, and all-stars won the NBA championship New York KnicksThe team announced on Sunday.
He was 88 years old.
Gary, Indiana, was his fifth pick in the Tennessee A&I 1959 draft. He began his career with the Syracuse Nationals and played three seasons. Los Angeles Lakers And ultimately he played for the Knicks for nine years from 1965 to 1974.

“Through his illustrious career, Dick Barnett has embodied everything that means being Nick of New York on and off the court,” Knicks said in a statement. “He left a positive impact on everyone he met, and this organization is very fortunate to have him become such an integral part of its history.
“His jersey will forever hang down on the rafters of Madison Square Garden, and his play throughout his career will become part of Knicks fans’ memories.”
Burnett was part of the Tennessee A&I dynasty, which won three straight NAIA championships in 1957. The school is now known as Tennessee.

He was part of the 1970 Knicks team, beating the Lakers in seven games to win the championship. He averaged 14.9 points and 3.6 assists that season. He played with Willis Reed, Walt Fraser and Dave DeBuchere.
In 1973, the Knicks defeated the Lakers again – this time in five games. He was primarily a bench player at that point in his career. Frazier, Debusschere and Bill Bradley led the team in scoring.
He finished his career with a total of 9,442 points for the Knicks, averaging 15.8 points per game. He was ninth on the Knicks career scoring list, and his 12th jersey retired in 1990.

Burnett was led to Hall of Fame As a player in 2024.
