The association says some of the biggest causes of trucking shortages are those older from the workforce and finding qualified drivers is difficult. Instead of addressing these issues, Self-driving cars Company Gatic is simply removing the driver from the equation.

“That is the emergence of autonomy. So automation is the only long-term viable option,” said Gatham Naran, CEO of Gatic.

Gatic currently has over 100 Self-driving trucks On the road, most of them are in Texas, Arkansas and Canada.
And that’s just the beginning.
“We’re talking about deploying hundreds and ultimately thousands of trucks for some of the world’s largest civilian fleets,” Naran said.

“We are enabling customers, some of the largest retailers, to move their products more frequently at no additional cost. We don’t want customers to take over the cost of transportation to consumers,” Naran said.

“There’s a fundamental trade-off between safety and efficiency, and it’s actually very difficult to balance that. You don’t want to do this on the road. You want to do as much as possible. Kochenderfer added that self-driving car companies need to take their baby steps, starting with limited deployments to ensure safety.
“I think it’s impossible to build a completely secure system because there are always completely unexpected events. But I believe there are far more secure opportunities than human drivers,” says Kochenderfer.
