A number of museums in the Twin Cities announced they would join Friday’s “economic blackout” strike in response to the president’s call. donald trump’s immigration enforcement policies, according to their own social media posts.
8 museums and dozens of other small businesses restaurants and coffee shops, Posters advertised what organizers described as a “statewide shutdown,” urging people to “no work, no school, no shopping,” and planned to close businesses.
A demonstration against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was scheduled for Friday in downtown Minneapolis starting at 2 p.m.

The agency previously said its enforcement efforts focused on individuals who are in the country illegally and pose public safety or national security concerns.

“In solidarity with immigrant communities and to provide space for action, reflection, rest and safety, the museum will close on Friday, January 23. It will open as usual on Saturday,” the newspaper’s post said. Science Museum of Minnesota‘s Instagram.
The Museum of St. Paul is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with interactive exhibits.
“We want to stand in solidarity by closing this Friday, January 23rd.”

“During these turbulent times in which we live, it is imperative that institutions cherish our common humanity,” Kate Bean, executive director of the Minnesota Museum of American Art, said in a statement.

“The Bakken Museum works with the community, so we would like to unite by closing this Friday, January 23rd. We will resume normal opening hours on Saturday, January 24th,” the science museum wrote on Facebook.
The Children’s Museum of Minnesota also warned visitors on Instagram that it would be closed on Friday.

“We stand in solidarity with our community and staff in support of justice, kindness, and human dignity,” the post said.
“The Children’s Museum of Minnesota is a place of joy, inclusion, and togetherness, and we’re looking forward to it. welcome family We will resume normal business hours on Saturday. ”

The American Swedish Institute (ASI) also posted on its website that it would be closing on Friday.
“ASI has welcomed, celebrated, and studied immigrants for nearly 100 years. We are and will always be advocates for the Twin Cities and Minnesota communities,” the memo said.

The Russian Museum and the Wiseman Museum both announced they would close on Friday, but did not specifically indicate whether they supported the strike.

The Minnesota Maritime Museum also announced it would close.
