The layoffs at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs unit, which employs about 3,000 people, come as the company’s AI efforts have become overly bureaucratic, Axios said, with an internal memo revealing the social media giant hopes the cuts will create more efficient workflows.

Axios said the job cuts will affect its FAIR AI research division, product-related AI division, and AI infrastructure division. Employees in the company’s newly created TBD Lab division, tasked with developing next-generation AI models, will keep their jobs.
