A 50-year-old document documenting Margaret Thatcher’s rise to power has recently been published. discovered in the garage In England.
The discovery was announced by Deep South Media on October 13, which would have been the 100th anniversary of Thatcher’s birth.
The item is part of a property scheduled to be auctioned at the Duke of Dorchester on January 29, 2026, and is expected to fetch up to £100,000, or approximately US$125,000.

The 50-year-old document was a nomination document signed by Ms Thatcher herself, in which she agreed to stand for the Conservative Party leadership.

The letter, dated February 11, 1975, began with the words “Election of Conservative Party Leader.”
“I consent to be nominated,” Ms. Thatcher wrote under her signature on January 27, 1975.

This document marked the beginning of her rise to power. She became leader of the Conservative Party that year, and from there became Prime Minister in 1979.
Separate Lottery records show Ms Thatcher won by 146 votes, with second-place candidate William Whitelaw receiving 79 votes.

The cache includes Mr Du Can’s notes and records, as well as other correspondence from the leadership campaign, including with former Prime Minister Edward Heath and then-Prime Minister Harold Wilson.

“This pivotal period is fully covered in documents detailing Ms Thatcher’s rise to the leadership of the party, and from there to Prime Minister, a position she held for more than 11 years and won three general elections,” the release said.
Auctioneer and art consultant Guy Schwinge said the collection “ very important historically. ”

“Margaret Thatcher was a pioneer in every sense of the word,” Schwinge told Deep South Media.
