Maine school districts are moving to comply with the current federal definitions of Title IX and ban biological male trans athletes in women’s sports. The battle of state government Enable transinclusion.
MSAD #70 School Board complied unanimously on Monday night Title IX“We recognize only two genders: biological males and biological females, and we recognize that all private spaces are separated by biological sex.”
MSAD #70 coach Tyler Putnam told Fox News Digital the vote has directed the district’s policies to amend trans athletes to prevent them from competing in women’s sports.
“This move will rewrite our policy and direct you to adhere to the move, my interpretation is that the Board of Education is trying to approve a policy to align biological gender with a specific athletic team.

MSAD #70 is based in Hodgdon, Aroostook County. It is the northernmost county in the state and voted for President Donald Trump in the November election with an 18% margin. The county also voted for two Republican senators and seven Republican state lawmakers.
Now, county school districts are monitoring with Trump and his Republican lawmakers in the ongoing battle for trans-athletes, including trans-athletes to women’s sports.
Putnam told Fox News Digital that the district has no communication with state officials, including the Attorney General, the Maine Department of Education (MDOE), or the Maine Principals’ Association (MPA) about the recent vote.
“We don’t have communications around this particular move. Like many people in Maine, our board tracks communications between the federal government and the state. We hope that both sides will work together to support local school districts like us,” Putnam said.
“With rising education costs, this is a time when we need to work together rather than oppose. Our top priority for the board and staff is to provide students with education that will positively impact our future in our great states and countries.
Maine Sen. Tracy Quinto is one of the Republicans representing Arostock County and praised MSAD #70 in that vote.
“By supporting Title IX protection, I encourage you to see the main local community stand up for your students. Equity, safety and privacy of all students should always come before politics. I encourage other school districts in the state to follow this example and prioritize the well-being of all students,” Quint told Fox News Digital.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the Maine Attorney General’s Office and the office of Gov. Janet Mills for comment.
The state is currently facing major federal pressure to comply with Trump’s February executive order to ban trans athletes from girls and girls’ sports, but it has firmly rejected the order under Mills’ leadership.
Maine was featured twice last month by the Department of Justice and is facing a freezing of federal funds by the USDA.
Maine officials Last Monday, they filed a lawsuit against the USDA in response to an agency’s decision to freeze funds.
A federal judge ruled on Friday that the USDA “must be lifted and released federal funds that Maine has allegedly failed to comply with Title IX requirements have been frozen or failed or refused to pay.”
The state disparities regarding state trans-inclusion became clear when Maine Assemblyman Laurel Libby identified trans-athletes in a social media post that won the Greeley High School girls’ pole vault competition in February.
Libby was criticized in a social media post about the premise that she identified a minor by her name and photo. However, Libby has since filed a lawsuit to overturn the accusation, claiming that the trans-athlete had already been identified by other media prior to her post. The case is on trial in Rhode Island District Court.
In addition to the incident involving Paul Wolter from Greeley High School, other cases have affected multiple girls across the state who had to compete with biological men and share locker rooms.
