The four members of the popular TV show – Ted Lange, Fred Grandi, Jill Whelan and Bernie Copel – reunited in New York City for the opening night of the off-Broadway play “The Lady Patriot.” The play was written and directed by Lange and features his previous co-stars Grandy and Whelan.
“The Love Boat” premiered on ABC in September 1977 and ran for nine seasons. Its final episode aired in May 1986, followed by a short-lived revival, “Love Boat: The Next Wave,” which aired two seasons from 1998 to 1999.

Fred Grandy

Fred Grandy On the show, he starred as Barr “Gopher” Smith throughout all nine seasons.
Following his time on “The Love Boat,” Grandy took a big break from acting, focusing instead on a career in politics and later chose to work for a nonprofit. The actor served four terms in the House from 1987 to 1995, representing Iowa’s Fifth Congressional District.
Grandy later became president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International, hosting his own radio talk show in Washington, DC, and eventually returned to television in 2003, appearing in episodes of Law and Order, Mindy Project, Fuller House, and most recently in the film “I’ll Be Not there.”
Grandi married Jangoff from 1969 to 1983 and had two children. He later married Katherine Mann in 1987, and they share one child.
Ted Lange

Before his starring role as Isaac Washington in “Love Boat,” Ted Lange appeared in the short-lived sitcom “That’s My Mom.”
In the later seasons of “The Love Boat,” Lange began directing episodes. This is a passion that has been handed down in his post-show career. He directed episodes for “The New Gidget,” “Moesha,” and other series. Lange continued to perform as a guest on shows such as “Family Matters,” “Drake & Josh,” and “General Hospital.” He recently appeared in the film “Twelve.”

In addition to his acting and directorial career, Lange also created his name as a prolific playwright who has written over 15 plays, including “The Boy of George Washington,” “The Shakespeare of My Shoulder Trilogy,” “The Freedom Ring Let Ring,” and recently “The Lady Patriot.” Lange also wrote a sex advice column.
Lange married Sheryl Thompson in 1978. They divorced in 1989 and shared two children. He later married Mary Ray in 2001.
Bernie Kopel

Bernie Copel starred in “Love Boat” as Dr. Adam Bricker.
Before joining “The Love Boat,” Kopell appeared on television shows including “Get Smart.”I was captivated“And “that girl.”
After the show ended, Kopel made a guest appearance in several popular TV series and played a small role in the film. He recreated his role as Siegfried in the 1989 film Get Smart, Again! He later appeared in a nostalgic cameo in the 2008 remake of “Get Smart.”
The actor married Celia Whitney from 1962 to 1963 and Yolanda Verros from 1974 to 1995. He married Katrina Honador in 1997 and the couple have two children.
Jill Whelan

Jill Whelan He played Vicki Stubb, daughter of Captain Merrill, and was the youngest member of the “Love Boat” cast. She took part in the show in the third season.
After time at the show, Whelan appeared on many television shows before moving on to regional theatres and cabaret performances. She later co-hosted the radio show The Brian and Jill Show with Brian Phelps.
In 2015, Whelan became the ambassador for Princess Cruises, sailing on over 100 voyages with the company and interacting with fans at various conventions.
Whelan married Brad St. John in 1993, and they share one son, Harrison. The couple divorced in 2001. She later welcomed her second son, Grant, along with her husband, Michael Tchaikovsky, whom she married in 2004. They divorced in 2014.

Gavin McLeod

Gavin McLeod was a long Hollywood career before Captain Merrill starring in “Love Boat” and appeared in 73 episodes of early 1960s comedy, “Mchale’s Navy.”
After “The Love Boat” ended, Macleod continued to make guest appearances in several television series before retiring from on-screen work in 2014.
The actor later held faith-based programming, writing two memoirs, “Back-on Course” and “This is Your Captain Speaking,” and became Princess Cruise’s ambassador.
MacLeod married Joan F. Ludvik from 1955 to 1972, and the couple shared four children. He married Patty Kendich in 1974. The couple divorced in 1982, but later remarried in 1984. MacLeod passed away in May 2021 at the age of 90.

Lauren Tues

Lauren Tues He was the main cast member of the first seven seasons of “The Love Boat,” and played cruise director Julie McCoy before leaving the show due to substance abuse issues.
She later returned as a guest in the final season and appeared in the 1990 TV film The Love Boat: A Valentine Voyage. Tewes also had small roles in television shows and films, working as a voice actor.
Aside from her on-screen production, Tues has developed a strong stage career. She also trained as a chef and worked in catering.
Tues married John Wassel from 1977 to 1982 and Paolo Nonniss from 1985 to 1995. She later married Robert Nadir in 1996 and stayed with him until her death in 2002.
