US Secretary of Education Linda McMahon It undoubtedly revealed the biggest step in President Donald Trump’s mission to combat transport for women to sports on Tuesday.
The University of Pennsylvania has arrived resolution When Thomas competed in the NCAA Women’s Swimming Championships in 2022, the administration ignited cultural debate, and it closed its administration over handling the situation with Leah Thomas.

Thomas Saga at the 2022 NCAA Championship is primarily considered a cultural turning point in the national debate surrounding transgender athletes in women’s sports. At the time, today’s well-known conservative activist Riley Gaines was a dentist student who had to settle for a connection with Thomas at one of the NCAA Championship events.

McMahon followed the situation through the news that year.
“When I saw the difference in size between Riley Gaines and Leah Thomas, when I first saw it, I said, ‘Oh, this is totally unfair,'” McMahon told Fox News Digital. “When you think about it, she tied it up, which is surprising, but it was totally unfair. She left it and came clearly in fifth place and that didn’t happen.”
McMahon said he hopes Tuesday’s announcement will send a message to other girls in high schools and colleges across the country.
“I think they’re those girls, hopefully they’ll see Riley and Paula [Scanlan] Others are real role models and empower them to stand up,” McMahon said.
The department previously began an investigation of UPenn on February 6th. The Trump administration later frozen $175 million in school funding on March 20th. Then, on April 28, the Department of Education’s Civil Rights Office concluded that UPenn had violated Title IX in handling of Thomas’ situation.
Now, Upenn agrees to implement strict policies that exclude trans athletes from women’s sports and issue apologies to all affected women.
However, McMahon’s work does not end there with upenn. The Department of Education and other departments of the Trump administration are fighting the issue on multiple fronts in aggressive lawsuits against Maine for refusing to comply with Trump’s duties on the issue. The administration has also been targeted by California and Minnesota on the issue, as well as some states have actively denied Trump’s mission on the issue.
McMahon hopes that Upenn’s contract will send a message to these states.

“Our sincere hope is that they absolutely recognize what they have to do to comply with Title IX. That’s the law,” McMahon said. “There are federal funds that have been withheld and withdrawn, so this comes with penalties. But in reality, it’s common sense that men should not compete in women’s sports.”
The same day McMahon’s department announced its investigation into UPenn, it also released a survey of San Jose State University on the handling of former transgender volleyball player Blaire Fleming. The situation in which Fleming is involved led to a scandal published nationwide during the fall 2024 season. This included multiple lawsuits by the state of San Jose and other Mountain West volleyball players.
Recently, Fox News Digital reported that the Mountain West Conference hired the same law firm to investigate allegations of misconduct by transathletes that the conference uses to advocate for athlete eligibility in conference tournaments in court.
Fox News Digital reported on June 24 that Mountain West had hired company Willkie Farr & Gallagher to investigate allegations against Fleming, who conspired with the other party to have a teammate. Brooks slasser He caused harm during the match on October 3rd.
Mountain West hired the company to handle investigations in which the same company represents the meeting in order to protect Fleming’s eligibility, protect preliminary injunctions, and ensure that trans athletes are disqualified from women’s competition and conference tournaments.
