The Republican strategist emphasized that Lara Trump “has a name, but beyond that, a fundraising powerhouse, and has the discipline to become an incredible candidate and senator if she chooses it.”
“She is probably the only person that should be “considered” in the same sentence, as she is the president’s daughter-in-law and that would be a consideration,” the operative added.
Four years ago, Lara Trump considered bidding for the Open Senate seat in North Carolina in the 2022 midterm elections.
“It’s incredible. It’s my hometown, I love so much, and I look at it, I think we need strong Republicans in Washington, DC,” she told Fox News at the time.
She ultimately opposed launching the campaign, citing her two young children as the main reasons for her decision. However, she revealed the future running possibilities of her hometown office.
Lara and Eric Trump own a home in Florida, and Lara Trump’s name was briefly mentioned late last year as the successor to Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Sen.
“After incredible thoughts, contemplation and encouragement from so many people, I have decided to remove my name from considerations in the United States Senate, she said in a statement near the end of December.

Whatley served as chairman of the North Carolina GOP for five years before Trump chose him to chair the RNC earlier last year.

Another name that appears is Rep. Richard Hudson. Richard Hudson is chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee for the second consecutive cycle.
In addition to Whatley, Hudson, who has represented the central North Carolina district of Congress for over a decade, is a powerful Trump ally.

A familiar source told Fox News that Hudson “is close to Trump World and if they really want him to run, he wouldn’t say no to them.”
The trio of North Carolina’s First Republican Congressmen may also be interested in the competition as Tillis’ replacements.
Sources confirmed with Fox News that Rep. Pat Harrigan is paying attention to the bid. Representatives Tim Moore and Brad Knott may be interested too. And four-term GOP MP Murphy might consider doing it.
Scoop: Republican eye bids for Senator Tom Tillis after Trump attack
Some National Republicans are relieved that Tillis is not seeking re-election. A self-independent thinker who crossed the political aisle to seek compromise, Tillis doesn’t vote well with the Maga base.
Some Republican operatives familiar with Senate races suggested that GOP would be easier to activate smaller middle voters with more conservative candidates than Tillis in the 2026 poll as GOP candidates in North Carolina.
And Trump’s royalists saw Tillis’ announcement as further evidence of the president’s immense retention of the GOP.
“Over the past few years, it has become increasingly clear in Washington that there are leaders willing to embrace bipartisanship, compromise and demonstrate that independent thinking is becoming an endangered species,” Tillis said in a statement.
In a race to nominate the Democratic Senate, trial lawyer and former Senator Wiley Nickel began bidding earlier this year.

But all eyes are on Roy Cooper, the former two-term Democratic government. He’s running. Cooper is considered the most fearsome and prominent potential Democratic candidate in the seat where his party is aiming to turn it from red to blue.
However, since 2008, no Democrat has won a Senate race in North Carolina.
