The former father LSU wide receiver Kylen Lacey broke the silence on Sunday with her son’s death as authorities revealed details about what happened before he died of suicide.
Kenny Lacey wrote a message to her parents in a few Facebook hours after it was revealed that her son had passed away in the Houston area.

“Young parents start talking to your child at a very young age and make sure they are confident and comfortable with you,” he wrote on his social media platform. “Don’t be cool with ‘I’m fine, or I’m good’. When you know something is not right in depth. Mental health is authentic and in most cases it is invisible.
“Our lives will change forever and this is okay, but God needed my baby here. This must be the biggest medicine our family has had to swallow, but I know that the love and compassion of our family will pass us through.

Responding lawmakers removed Lacey from the vehicle and detained him, but he was found with a “self-harmed gunshot wound” and was declared dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

“The Harris County Sheriff’s Office murder detectives and crime scene units conducted an investigation into the case,” a statement read via Fox 26 Houston. “Preliminary information shows that Lacey was shot during the pursuit and before the vehicle crashed. The handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle. Pct. A review of the four-unit body camera and a dash-mount video of the car did not show that the shot was not fired after the pursuit was finished.
“Once the Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide investigation is completed, it will be forwarded to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office’s Civil Rights Office, similar to the standard of death that occurs during an attempted arrest.”
Lacey was 24 years old.

He fled the crash scene without seeking assistance, Louisiana State Police said. Lacey’s arrest warrant was obtained for negligent murder, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of the vehicle.
