Veteran NFL quarterback Kirk Cousins says he felt he was “misunderstood” Atlanta Falcons If the organization had drafted Michael Penix Jr. on the first pick in the 2024 draft, and he knew it before signing, the decision he claimed would have led him to stay in Minnesota.

Cousins explained that he is likely to remain in the Vikings, realizing that both teams have plans to draft a rookie signalling caller. Atlanta drafted Penix on the 8th overall pick Viking Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy was selected for his 10th pick.
“If both teams are trying to draft a quarterback high, there was no reason to leave Minnesota there how much they love there, but in 12 years in this league, you’ve learned that nothing is acceptable to anything.

Cousins signed a four-year deal with the Falcons, reportedly worth up to $180 million, but lost his first job to Penix in just three weeks into the season. He went 7-7 and threw 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns and 16 intercepts. The Penix concluded the season 1-2 to start the quarterback.
“It hurts to get into work, but you had to become an adult,” Cousins said in the episode about being on the bench. “You’re a grown man and you have to deal with it mature. I feel sorry for myself and it’s hard to do, but that’s what you have to do.
