Kathy Bates It’s pushing back to speculation surrounding her recent weight loss.
During an interview with VarietyThe 77-year-old Oscar-winning actress shot back at critics who suffered a 100-pound weight loss due solely to Ozempic, a GLP-1 injection that was previously prescribed for diabetes but was recently used as a weight loss drug.
“People say, ‘Well, it was an ozempic.’ f — It took me years to get this diagnosis of diabetes. “When they said ‘diabetic’, I slowly came up with what to do to lose weight over the years. And when Ozempic came, I lost the last 15-20 pounds and was able to avoid it. ”
Bates makes history this weekend as the oldest person to be nominated for a lead actress in the Emmy Awards drama category. She was nominated for the role as Madeline Matlock in the CBS reboot of “Matlock.”

When talking about the show, Bates says, “The timing is great,” “I explain the juxtaposition of getting healthy,” and it’s “incredible” to get the chance to star in this show.
“People say, ‘Well, it was an ozempic.’ f —You, it took me years to do this. ”
Despite all the hard work, Bates told Variety that she is still adapting to her new body, despite the weight loss.
“She had a beautiful dress for me to try. I saw it on the hanger and thought, ‘That doesn’t suit me.’ I put it on, it fits, I just melted,” Bates said. “I just started crying. I’m still thinking about what it would be if I didn’t have that weight. What was it for? Was I hiding myself? I was really surprised because I didn’t have that armor so I was really surprised.”

She said she added that when she was in college she was on her heaviest weight in 2011. During that period, she starred as Harriet “Harry” Cone in the NBC legal drama “Harry’s Law.”
“I had to sit in every moment I could,” recalls Bates. “It was hard for me to walk. I’m embarrassed.
The actress previously addressed rumors of losing weight for Ozempic in an October 2024 interview with People Magazine.
During an interview, she told the outlet it Losing weight was “hard work” And after losing 80 pounds herself, she helped her lose the last 20 using the Waitros medication.

“There were a lot of stories of how we were able to do this for the Ozempic,” Bates said. People Magazine. “But I have to impress the people there that this is a tough job for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very difficult to say you have enough.”
Her desire to be healthy came after she was Diagnosis of type 2 diabetes 2017.
One of the biggest changes she made was switching to food after 8pm in the interview and cutting off food.

“I ate because I was afraid. It was because you were an f to my self-esteem,” she said. “[Diabetes] I ran with my family and saw what my dad had experienced. He had amputated his leg. One of my sisters takes it very seriously and it scared me. It scared me straight. ”
