John Voight He takes his role as Hollywood’s special ambassador seriously.
National Treasure Stars Met President Donald Trump Just before the president announced 100% tariffs on filming abroad, he was on Mar-A-Lago in Florida over the weekend.
“It’s coming to us where we really need help and the president thank God for the care of Hollywood and film,” Voight I spoke to variety this week. “He loves Hollywood so much. He has to roll up his sleeves here. You can’t go down the drain like Detroit does.”
Trump Voight appointed together Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone call Hollywood ambassadors soon after taking office, calling it a “great but extremely troublesome place.”

“They will serve as special envoys to me with the aim of bringing Hollywood, which has lost so many business abroad in the past four years. He wrote about the true society at the time. “These three extremely talented people will become my eyes and ears. I will accomplish what they propose. It will once again become the golden age of Hollywood, like America itself!”
Voight said the goal is to “reclaim dignity and work for people,” and without elaborating on the plan, “we have to do something, and that’s past time.”
While some in the industry have responded negatively to the tariff proposal, Voight said he is getting positive feedback.

“We got a lot of good responses from people,” he added. “We’re really working with the sleeves rolled up. I think we have a good plan. We’re just starting out. My little team worked very hard to try and figure things out. The people and producers from the union gave us expertise and understanding on this issue, and we’re working together.
Voight said the studio is using economic incentives to film abroad.

“Every studio has many clever people. They piloted the amortization and gifts given around the world to seduce people in different countries,” he told Variety. “They’re using them. Now we’re saying, ‘Hey, we have to have it here.’ They have an equal arena, but they need more than that. ”

Voight also said he and Trump believe they are both unfairly treated by people in the industry who have left.
“But what’s the difference? Who cares?” he said. “I mean, there was a fight, but now it’s time to put it aside, and I have to say in every interaction we had. [on addressing runaway production]politics never came out. Never once. “

“This should not be political,” Voight added. “I don’t know the political identities of the people we spoke to. We’ve talked to a lot of people here. I don’t distinguish them by their party affiliation, and if we can come up with it [a plan that can be executed]he backs us. He wants us to be the old Hollywood. I think we have a bright future when we all come together. ”
