Jason Momoa He is known for playing “Aquaman” on screen, but in reality, he had a different kind of experience at the ocean.
The actor revealed that he was almost nearly drowned during a tragic 2007 surf trip off the coast of Maui. “Smartless” Podcast.
“I was doing this paddle and went to Jaws,” Momoa said. “We paddled down the coast 13 miles, you were almost a mile offshore, and then my leash rang out.

Momoa, 46, continued to detail how violent waves crashed around him, but his previous water training had kept him floating for a while.
“I was pretty well trained so it was fine,” he said. “I’ve got a good number on my head. It’s pretty big, like 10 feet. Hawaiian waves. But I’m probably half a mile offshore at that point. ”
The Hollywood star added that he had reached a breaking point during the Surf incident.
“I was probably the outer reef and I was stuck in this crazy place that I didn’t know about. I was really on the outer reef and they couldn’t see me,” he recalled. “I had the paddle, I was shaking it, they couldn’t see me, and the waves were so big.”
And everything hit him at once – including the fear that he would not return it to his daughter, who was a toddler at the time.

When his thoughts turned to his daughter, Laura Iolani, the actor then said, “I just lost it, I was like, ‘Oh,'” “I said.
At that moment, Momoa was exhausted, drifting away, remembering to be alone. He felt that his survival instinct had failed.
“I was there for a while and no one could see me coming to get me. I couldn’t move anymore, my arms and legs gave up… my body stopped. I couldn’t move my arms anymore, it foamed. My toes hit the outer leaf.
When Momoa thought it was over, a friend found him and he had to continue pushing. Rough water.

“I’m going back to the board and start paddling,” he said. “He’s like, ‘You had to go outside,’ so we’re just keeping the paddle. ”
The two were quickly thrown off the board by “brutal” waves and strong currents. Seven miles were still there, and Momoa was bleeding from smoke, abused, and running.
“My legs are covered in blood,” he said. “And I’m literally [with] My ancestors paddled the rest like this, bowed their heads, we went outside. ”
The Hollywood actor was lucky enough to go to shore.

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonnett have agreed to joint legal and physical custody of their two children, daughter Laura and son Nakoa Wolf. (Getty Images)
The “Baywatch” actor is on a date with actress Adria Arjona after the couple worked together in 2021’s “Sweet Girl.” Momoa and Arjona published their relationship in May 2024.
Momoa was previously married to the star of the “Cosby Show” Lisa Bonnet. The two got married in 2017 before splitting in 2020. Momo and Bonnet filed for divorce in January 2024.
The former couple agreed to legal and physical custody of their two children, daughter Laura and son Nakoa Wolf. Bonnet and Momoa agreed to “share the cost of living” for minor children, and said that court documents obtained at the time by Fox News Digital would not pay child support to each other.
