BYU Football Player Jake Letzraff I’m no longer a member of the football program. The move marks the official start of his process and moves to another school.
in Social Media Posts On Friday, Retzlaff confirmed he had reached a “difficult decision” to withdraw, noting that he would “leave” from the Cougars football program.
“After many prayers, reflections and conversations with people I trust, I made the difficult decision to officially withdraw from the BYU and BYU football programs,” Retzlaff posted on Instagram on Friday.

“BYU has meant more to me that it’s just football. It’s been a place to grow – mentally, mentally, physically. I’m grateful to all my teammates, coaches, staff and fans.

The decision comes after a number of tumultuous months, including Retchraf, who was appointed in a sexual assault lawsuit. The lawsuit was later dismissed.

Quarterbacks remain eligible for one year. Retzlaff is shy about graduation and may be classified as a graduate student because he competed in his final year qualifications. Also, it’s unlikely he’ll be in NCAA Transfer Portal. Retzlaff can instead leave BYU and enroll in another school.
Late June, ESPN reported The quarterback was planning to play elsewhere in 2025. At the time, Retzlaff already told his coach and BYU teammates he was about to leave school.

Retchraff reportedly faced a halt for violating the honor code at a Mormon Church-run university after acknowledging an agreement-based sexual relationship in his defense of the suit.
Retzlaff threw for 2,947 yards and 20 touchdowns in 12 interceptions last season as the Cougars competed for spots in the Big 12 Championship game.

BYU coach Kalani Shitake declined to comment on Retzlaff’s situation earlier this week on Big 12 Media Day, saying it was a private issue.
