House Republican We have summoned US Fencing (USFA) board chair Damien Lehfeldt to force us to testify before Congress at a hearing examining the participation of transgender women in biologically women’s sports.
The subpoena said that after U.S. Fencing CEO Phil Andrews told the subcommittee about implementing government efficiency, which is scheduled to hold a hearing on May 7, Lehfeldt’s apparent refusal to cooperate was reportedly made an official statement online, indicating that he intended to attend the hearing.

“The Subcommittee is concerned that USFA policies may not support these obligations and that the underlying laws do not achieve their intended purpose. Therefore, the Subcommittee is investigating whether additional laws regarding the requirements of amateur sports, such as the USFA, are necessary to address these issues.”
lehfeldt and Andrews Both publicly expressed support to enable trans women to compete in biological women’s sports teams. The House Republican subpoena Lefeld’s decision follows an incident in which a female fencer named Stephanie Turner was punished by USA Fencing for refusing to compete with her transgender competitors earlier this year.
Turner refused to compete with his transgender competitors, who previously competed in the men’s division at the regional tournament in March. Video of her on the iconic knee, as she finally wins the “Black Card,” the fencing’s toughest penalty, and eventually she wins the “Black Card,” which went viral after the incident. Turner was eventually disqualified from the event and was escorted from the venue shortly after an act of civil disobedience.
“Personally, I see it quite often in fencing,” Turner said after the incident. “I have witnessed transgender swordsmen at women’s tournaments and women’s tournaments in various age categories, especially Y-14 (youngest age group).”

The letter accompanying Lehfeldt’s subpoena said the subcommittee on government efficiency submissions has repeatedly provided explanations on why Lehfeldt will not attend during the May 7 hearing. The letter said it had exhausted several options to accommodate the US fencing board chair, including considering moving the date of the hearing and providing extra time to get a legal representative.
The USA Fencing lawyers then asked the subcommittee if it was open to consider alternative witnesses. The committee asked if it was made available on May 7th. House Republican.

A few days later, US fencing showed Andrews would be happy to join Lefeld’s location if the hearing could be moved to May 9 in two days. A day later, they said, Liefeld showed the subcommittee that he had refused to formally testify.

“USFA lawyers explained why they believed Andrews was a good fit to appear on behalf of the organization, but the rationale for why Lefeld is not a useful witness,” the subpoena letter stated. “Until now, neither Mr. Liefeld nor anyone speaking on his behalf has provided a valid basis for his refusal to testify.”

Transgender women Competing in women’s sports, “This letter has continued.” Information on USFA’s policies, strategic plans and missions is necessary to advance the subcommittee’s oversight and legislative objectives. ”
In a statement from the communications director at Fox News Digital USA Fencing, Bryan Wendell confirmed the receipt of House GOP Subpoena, adding that he “observes that, of course.”
“Board Chairman Damien Lehfeldt looks forward to answering the Doge Subcommittee questions on May 7th,” concluded Wendell. “There will be no further comments until after the hearing.”
