Former Vice President Communication Director Kamala Harris According to the new book, he created the so-called “death list” of federal judges appointed by Republicans who can swear as president in Harris if President Joe Biden dies suddenly.
The book “Battle: Inside the Wild Battle for the White House,” published Tuesday by William Moreau & Company, claims that Harris’ White House communications director Jamal Simmons created the entire communications strategy to be adopted in Biden’s death.
Written by NBC News political journalist Jonathan Allen and Hill Amie Parnes, the book said Simmons imagined it was similar to losing Biden unexpectedly when Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn into Air Force 1 following the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963.
However, he was worried that people would question her legitimacy as president, and specifically concerns that “Trump people” would go to apes — the book claims if Harris became president.

“Simmons believed that if Biden was rushed to be sworn in because he unexpectedly passed away, Harris would be reinforced by an institutional stamp of approval,” Allen and Perns wrote. “Her legitimacy could be questioned, he was worried and recalled his efforts on January 6th to stop Biden being recognized as president.”
As a result, Simmons has created a spreadsheet of various judges appointed by Republicans who may be equipped to strengthen her legitimacy.
“He believed that the strongest validator was a federal judge appointed by a non-Trump Republican,” Allen and Perns wrote. “He compiled spreadsheets of these jurists across the country, leading to city-by-city collapses, and carried them with him when he traveled with Harris.”
Simmons never told Harris about the so-called “death roster” before departing for her communications team in January 2023, but he instructed his colleagues to immediately notify Biden if anything had happened so that he could implement his communications strategy. In the end, Simmons left a spreadsheet with another Harris staff member.
The book did not specify which judges were included in the list.
