According to Mayo Clinic, ALS is a “neurological disease that affects neurons in the brain and spinal cord.”
It causes loss of muscle control as well as breathing and eating problems, It can cause dementia.

According to the ALS Association, patients usually live for three years after being diagnosed with the disease, but can live for decades.
