
New Mexico Public Health Department has discovered multiple dead rodents, nests and feces Jean Hackman A vast real estate of his wife, according to newly released records obtained by Fox News Digital.
The environmental assessment of the rodents was conducted on March 5th after the deceased actor and his wife, Betsy Arakawa Hackman, were found dead at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico on February 26th.
Authorities have found dead rodents and nests throughout eight separate buildings of the couple’s property.

Reports say rodent feces were found in three detached garages, three sheds and two kashita. Live traps are listed as a rodent control technique and were used in outbuilding, the assessment states.

Additionally, two vehicles on the facility had sightings of rodents, nests and feces.
The hantavirus strain in the United States is transmitted from animals to humans, not from humans to humans. According to CDC“People get hantaviruses from contact with rodents such as rats and mice, especially when exposed to urine, feces and saliva.”

Dr. Erin Phipps, a New Mexico veterinarian at the New Mexico Department of Health, explained that the state previously explained that it ended in 2024 between 1-7 rare human infectious diseases each year.
“We have identified 136 infections among New Mexico residents over the past 50 years, five of which are in Santa Fe County,” Phipps said. “This is a serious illness. 42% of these infections here in New Mexico have been fatal.”

Classic pianist Betsy died of Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, according to New Mexico officials. The gene died from hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and as a significant contributor in Alzheimer’s disease.
The genes could have survived alone at home for about a week until his death around February 18th. Recorded by his pacemaker. Authorities assumed this was his last day, as the body of the Oscar winner was not found for another nine days.
Jean, Betsy, and one of their dogs were found dead in their Santa Fe home in February by maintenance workers. The couple had been married for over 30 years.

Detectives initially described the couple’s death as “suspected enough to require a thorough search and investigation,” according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital.
Authorities confirmed that no external trauma was found on either the gene or the Betsy, and New Mexican authorities immediately launched a criminal investigation into their deaths.
Gene and Betsy have previously tested negatives Carbon monoxideSheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed at the time. Their residences were tested for colorless, odorless gases and were cleaned up by the Santa Fe Fire Department after authorities were unable to find evidence of carbon monoxide leaks or poisoning.
