California Conflict against trans athletes It’s getting warmer this summer.
The California Interstate Statistics Federation (CIF) executive committee meeting is Noisy protesters on friday.
The contingency of the state’s “Save Girls Sports,” led by the California Family Council, has emerged outside the meeting for a press conference, on t-shirts, signs and even on podiums.

Multiple female athletes, parents and state education officials have opposed the CIF and governor Gavin Newsom over the policies that allowed trans athletes to compete in women’s sports, sparking some controversy in the state over the past year alone.
Sofia Lawley, director of California Family Council and Outreach, also boasts petitions at the event. The event will have at least 20,074 Californian signatures urging CIF and Newsom to change the state’s gender eligibility policy.
Taylor Sterling and Caitlin Slavin, a Martin Luther King High School student, filed a lawsuit against the Riverside Unified School District over a situation involving trans students at the school, headlined by athlete speakers.
Sterling shares the story of losing a cross-country team’s varsity spot to a trans athlete, and has a “save women’s sports” t-shirt compared to Swastika.

“This isn’t fair. Girls like me are told to sit down, smile and quiet and give up on what we worked so hard. Now we’re being left out of our team,” Sterling said.
Slavin spoke in support of his teammate Sterling.
“An example of this negative domino effect is that Taylor’s mental health is affected and her family is affected,” Slavin said. “I’m upset now because Taylor is one of my best friends, but I’m also confused about how this is allowed. Now, my family is trying to be there for me, but I have to step up and do my part to make a difference.”
California filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice earlier this month. After the officials request The state’s public high schools have confirmed that they will ban trans athletes from competing in women’s sports.
In the lawsuit, the Justice Department said it had “no right to make such a request” and “did not cite any authority to allow each local educational institution to issue or enforce accreditation requests.”

California defended the law that was questioned. This allows athletes to participate in sports that are consistent with their gender identity and do not violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.
The DOJ initially released a CIF survey on state policy in late May, leading to the women’s athletics stadium championship, with Trans Athlete AB Hernandez competing in several events in the women’s category.
The DOJ announcement of that investigation cited the case of Sterling and Slavin.
